The combine are likely a result of the black mesa incident, the advisors came in, with the technologyt they shaped with their xen abilites, and kidnapped humans, then turned them against the human race. If it can implode a barrel and hold people in midair, it can probably easily dominate other xen species. In episode 2, one newborn advisor is shown to effortlesssly implode a metal barrel with it's psychic antenna. then, WHO started the combine army? WHO would be powerful enough to create such an army? The theory doesn't make sense, the combine aren't seen interacting with advisors in any way and (yes I read the wiki) the combine soldiers are either CPs who proved outstanding or the past military on earth that was recycled into combine.
